St. Mary's Basilica Church:

Situated near Russel Market in Shivajinagar area of Bangalore, this church is the only one in the entire Karnataka which was given the status of Basilica. This status was bestowed upon the church through a Papal order by the then Pope John Paul VI. This church was established by a French missionary Abbe Dubois in the 18th Century. Every year in the month of September Virgin Mary's festival is celebrated with great pomp and show by arranging processions which involves people from all castes and creed. During Christmas the entire church is adorned with lights, conducting massess etc and other activities celebrating the birth of Jesus, making it an exciting place to be.
