Mysore Zoo also known as Sri Chamarajendra
Zoological Gardens was established in 1892 by the then maharaja
of mysore Sri. Chamaraja Wodeyar. This zoo was initially known
as 'Khasa Bangle' or 'private bungalow' which was 10 acres
in area, later the then British officer Karumbeigal shifted
the zoo to mysore. The zoo has further extended to cover the
adjecent Karanji lake which is now a part of the zoo.
The zoo has its credits for breeding of rare
animals and largest mammals like tigers, Barberry sheep, Royal
Bengal tigers, white tigers, elephants, giraffe, fallow deer,
Himalayan black bear, Guar (Indian bison) and white peafowl
in captivity & aslo accounts as fourth place in world
to hand-rare two giraffe calves
successfully.
Timings : All days expect Tusesdays being
weekly off for zoo.
Time : 8:00 am to 5.00 pm
