Chamundi Temple : Located on top of chamundi
hills is this famous chamundi temple which is built in 12th
century. The hill gets its name from the goddess kali or chamundi,
She is also given a name called 'Mahishasura Mardhini' for
killing the demon mahishasura. Goddess chamundi is aslo the
family deity of maharajas of mysore. This temple is built
in a fine quadrangular structure with a high 'gopuram' which
is visible from many miles. This place is about 13 kms from
mysore by road. Their is also 1000 step laid from start of
this hill in bottom to the temple on the top for Piligrims
to climb this hill so that they get relived from their past
karmas.
Half way on to this hills is Nandi Bull statue,
a 4.8M height monolith, close to the temple stands a gigantic
statues of the demon Mahishasura.
Tuesdays & Fridays are very auspicious
day for visiting this temple.
